At SL Motorcycle Training, we offer all available motorcycle courses, from CBTs to full DAS courses, please see below for more information regarding each course:
CBT (Compulsory Basic Training):
Compulsory basic training (CBT) is a course you usually have to take before you ride a moped or motorcycle on the road.
The training makes sure you can ride safely on your own while you practise for your full moped or motorcycle test.
CBT isn’t a test that you pass or fail.
After you’ve completed CBT, you can ride a:
You must use L plates (L or D plates in Wales).
You must pass your full moped or motorcycle test within 2 years, or you have to either take CBT again or stop riding.
A1 Category Motorcycle Test:
This test is for those aged 17 and over and will enable you to ride a motorcycle with a capacity no higher than 125cc and 11kw (14bhp) - in order to complete this test you will need to have completed a CBT and Motorcycle Theory Test
A2 Category Motorcycle Test:
This test is for those aged 19 and over and will enable you to ride a motorcycle with a power output no higher than 35kw (46 bhp) - if restriction is applied, the standard vehicle cannot produce more than twice this output.
In order to be eligible for this test, you need to have completed a CBT and Theory test, for the progressive access route, you will need to have 2 years experience under the A1 license and take a further practical test.
Category A Motorcycle Test:
Successfully completing this test will enable you to ride a motorcycle of any capacity without Restriction.
In order to complete this test you must be over the Age of 24 (for the direct Access route) and have completed a CBT and Motorcycle Theory Test, for the progressive access route, you will need to have obtained 2 years experience under the Category A2 license.
